Carlow Wadokai was established in 1977. After leaving Carlow Karate Club he joined Sensei Doug James and and brought his clubs into the International Karate-Do Chojinkai (1988). Doug is held in very high esteem at Carlow Wadokai as he helped structure the high standard of practice enjoyed at the Carlow dojo today. 1996 began training with the Wado Ryu Karate Academy of Ireland under Sensei Iwasaki. Sensei Shiomitsu conducted several courses at Carlow Wadokai during this time. Sensei Oliver Brunton (NIKW) also spent several years visiting Carlow Wadokai conducting technical courses. In recent years Sensei Iain Abernethy has been a popular guest instructor at the Carlow dojo conducting Bunkai Jutsu seminars. Sensei Derek Desmond has been visiting Carlow Wadokai conducting both Technical Wadokai seminars and WKF Kumite squad training. Sensei Desmond is Technical Advisor to the Carlow dojo on both subjects. As JKF Wadokai representative for the Republic of Ireland he conducts all grading exams for Carlow Wadokai. Other instructors who have taught at Carlow Wadokai are Sensei Kim McMenamin of Shito-Ryu (Kyusho Jutsu), Sensei Tyrone Pardue (Wado Academy USA). Colins competition career included Full and Semi Contact and WKF. He is a professional Fitness instructor (NCEF) and works as a Nite Club Doorman.
